When it comes to your cat, there are many traits and characteristics that they develop and inherently acquire that we may need to understand and get used to. I'm sure we've all had the occasional dead bird left at our door steps - yet this to your cat is a sign of loyalty and is sometimes a way of them 'giving back' to the owners provision and protection.
That being said, with a bunch of research been made on these wonderful creatures, we're pleased to start you off with this blog with a couple of facts that you may or may not know about your cat :)
1. They are sensitive and can detect earthquakes
Similar to canines, cats are able to detect earthquakes even before they happen! This has been recognised by studying cats' behaviour before noticing any tremors on the Richter scale.
2. They have dreams!
Not in the sense of accomplishment and being driven to achieve something, although some cats may argue against this. You may notice a similar state during their nap times to our REM. When this happens, their anti-gravity muscles switch off which is also why you may sometimes notice an occasional twitch.
3. They respond to praise and reward like us!
Believe it or not but cats can learn tricks too! Is it harder than training a dog? Without a doubt. But praise and the right reward can condition them to behave as desired. Cats are generally not as responsive most of the time as we would like them to be; but with the right lure, you can teach them any new command (our next blogs will be discussing this).
4. We shake hands, they bump noses.
In the cat world, thats how it's done. This is a mutual sign of respect between felines and is also associated with initial demonstration of affection and/or interest.
5. We still don't know where purring comes from!
Yep. We got stem cell's almost down, yet we are still oblivious as to why purring happens!
6. Cats are born manipulators
The same way we are hardwired as babies to cry when we need something, and repeat a certain behaviour when it gets us what we want - is the same way ALL cats learn, and quickly, the right acts that cause their owners to do a certain thing. Remember how your cat will imitate kitty meows whilst brushing up to your leg when it's hungry? Hmm as you begin to notice when it does what it does you'll start to realise that the cute little fella is a lot more intelligent than appears. Makes you question who's really in charge sometimes doesn't it? :P We love them nonetheless.
7. Raw meat actually cleans their teeth!
A little clump of meat every here and there will make sure their gums and teeth maintained, clean and in good shape. They have come from the wild after all; oh and no it's not bad for them :)
8. BONUS! They can look like little lions
With the help of one of our cat manes, you can have your little one prancing around with confidence thinking it runs the household pride. Then again whats changed? Other than the fact that it looks much cuter of course :)
Until next time,
